Elon Musk, who previously expressed support for Trump, refuted recent reports claiming he committed to donating $45 million monthly to a super PAC backing former President Trump up to the November election. Musk clarified in an interview with conservative commentator Jordan Peterson that these reports were inaccurate.
“I want to clarify that the reports in the media are simply not true,” Musk stated. “I am not pledging $45 million a month to Trump.”
The Wall Street Journal had earlier reported that Musk intended to contribute $45 million monthly to America PAC, which focuses on voter registration and encouraging early voting and mail-in ballots in swing states, countering Democratic efforts to mobilize voters.
Trump, referencing the report, mentioned at a campaign rally that Musk was purportedly donating $45 million monthly without informing him beforehand. However, Musk clarified his position, stating that while he plans to make donations to America PAC, they will be at a significantly lower level.
“I am indeed making some contributions to America PAC, but at a reduced amount,” Musk later stated. He emphasized that the PAC supports principles such as meritocracy and individual freedom, with Republicans generally aligning with these values.
Musk acknowledged his involvement in creating America PAC, which aims to support Trump but intends not to be excessively partisan.
“The core principles of America PAC are focused on promoting the values that originally made America great,” Musk explained to Peterson. “While I support these principles, I don’t align myself strictly with the ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) slogan. I believe in making America greater.”
Despite Musk’s previous statement in March that he did not plan to donate to either Trump or Biden’s campaigns (although Biden later withdrew from the race, making Vice President Kamala Harris the likely Democratic nominee), Musk’s endorsement of Trump followed an attempted assassination on the former president at a Pennsylvania campaign rally earlier in July.
“I stand by my endorsement of President Trump and wish him a swift recovery,” Musk affirmed in a post on X following the incident on July 13th.
